January Round-Up + Monthly Obsessions

2020 is in full force now, baby!! I think it will be fun and beneficial to do a monthly round-up of all my favourite things for the month. Who else has been saying that this is your year?! January was full of trying new routines and products to ensure I start the year off right and begin new habits. Here are my noteworthy mentions:

One of my 2020 goals is to read a minimum of twelve books. So far, one down!

This book was wild. I think it took me a whole (maybe) three days to devour. I'm sure you've seen or heard of this thriller, but if you have not, Let. Me. Tell. YOU. Please just trust me, read this book.

Next, the colour of the month.

OPI Lisbon Wants Moor

My life motto is "Look good, feel good, do good." One of my high school teachers repeatedly ingrained this in my head. And it makes sense, right? That's why a lot of my mentality revolves around ensuring I look good so I feel good and have the confidence to do good. Nails included. This OPI colour is the perfect very light pink nude. This time I did the dip dip and so far I am loving the longevity. (PS. my favourite nail shape is almond.)

Podcasts are a big part of my morning routine.

Girlboss Radio - How to ask for what you want - and get it.

If you haven't read Sophia Amoruso's book Girlboss, I highly recommend it. She takes you through how she started her initial clothing business, Nasty Gal. It's full of good tips and real shit. Now she has a podcast that features incredible people. This month, the episode that stuck out to me was with Amy Pascal, a film producer. Below are some key tips that I took note of.

Prepping Grocery Lists and Meal Planning

I have finally nailed a system that not only saves me a ton of money on groceries but also prevents me from eating out! Truth be told, before this system I would eat out probably 3-4 times a week. Somedays I would buy lunch at work and go out for dinner the same day, I am ashamed. Then when I began to start the habit of looking at my weekly spendings, I almost died when I saw my total on just food.

I may do a whole post on breaking this system down while sharing my go-to recipes, but here is the jist of it: I use a beautiful notebook and use two pages for one week. On one side, I write down the days of the week and have spots to fill in what I want for lunch and dinner. On the other page, I use the Cornell Note Taking Method to write down the meal and the ingredients I need.

This system has seriously been a lifesaver. I don't stress over what to make for dinners anymore and I cut back on going out for food. Saving money 2020, baby!
